SUNSET DEBRIS

CARLA BUSUTTIL

Jardin Rouge  I  08 February 2020

The Montresso* Art Foundation and the artist Carla Busuttil present the exhibition « Sunset Debris » from February 8 to March 31, 2020 at Jardin Rouge artists residence.

Although she lives in the United Kingdom, much of Carla Busuttil’s work is influenced by the context in which she grew up after the end of apartheid in South Africa.

Spectres of colonialism and unequal wealth, the characters who occupy hyper-privatized spaces are at the heart of her work. The recurrence of stereotypical motifs such as the figure of the British schoolboy thus makes it possible to evoke these new segregated environments.

During her residency at Jardin Rouge, Carla Busuttil draws deep inspiration from Morocco. From architecture to zellij motifs, the artist’s encounter with local heritage is embodied in the subtle tension between arabesques and geometric forms. The line is free, spontaneous, incisive.

From 08 February to 31 March 2020
