David MESGUICH

Through his art, French artist David Mesguich questions the artificial boundaries that keep us from progressing. David wanders the cities in an obsessive fashion developing an atypical mapping that focuses on everything that separates and divides people in these transition areas. The artist makes his some of these parcels of aseptic territories through his monumental sculptures and drawings. David Mesguich makes digital its first place of creation, alone in the immensity of the code, he draws the first features of his subjects. His sculptures come alive with the combination of three-dimensional imaging and traditional modeling. The artist is fascinated by polygonal aesthetics, an element of language in glitch art, of video games from the 80s and 90s and the dramaturgy of baroque art. It questions the place of man in the urban environment as a space of partitioning, separation and crossing. These conditioned places made of multiple markings and signals compartmentalize and restrict both the freedom of movement and thinking.

Looking at his sculptures of men and women, one can assume that David Mesguich is an outstanding artist who seeks to breathe life into the material. He knows how to enhance tenderness, gentleness, sensuality, hope, but also despair in what he sees. His sculptures question the past, the future and sets the condition of man and his status – the migrant, the convict, the outcast.
